Prerequisites:

  • Access to an internet browser.

Process:

You can use the markup tool to draw, measure, and add text to your map to customize it. There are a few easy steps to this functionality.

  • Navigate to a MapGeo site. You may want to zoom in to a specific property or area in which you would like to add mark-ups. Next, click on the button in the top right corner of the map. This will open the Markup panel on the right side of the map.

  • There are two markup modes: Draw and Measure.

    • The drawing mode will allow you to draw a line, shape, or add text anywhere on the map. Click on “Draw,” and then choose a tool.

      • Pan: This tool will allow you to click and drag the map to move the map extent.

      • Text: This tool will allow you to drop a text box anywhere on the map. Click the “Text” button, and then click anywhere on the map. This will place the text box. Begin typing, and your text should fill the text box. You cannot move the text box, so click carefully to place the box in the correct position. You may change the font size and color in the right hand panel.

      • Marker: This tool will allow you to click and drop a red place marker anywhere on the map.

      • Line: This tool will allow you to draw a line on the map by clicking. Each new click will create a vertex, and you can double click to end the line. You may also change the line color and thickness.

      • Circle: This tool will allow you to draw a perfect circle on the map. Click the “Circle” button, and then click once on the map to indicate the center of the circle. Then move your mouse outwards to widen the circle. Click again to finish the drawing. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

      • Rectangle: This tool will allow you to draw a rectangle on the map. Click the “Rectangle” button, and then click once on the map to indicate the top left corner of the rectangle. Then move your mouse outwards to widen the rectangle. Click again to finish the drawing. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

      • Polygon: This tool will allow you to draw a polygon on the map by clicking. Each new click will create a vertex, and you can connect the first point to the last point to finish the polygon. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

      • Freeform polygon: This tool will allow you to draw a custom polygon on the map. Click the “Freeform polygon” button, and then click once on the map to indicate the beginning point of the polygon. Then move your mouse as though it were a pencil to “draw” the polygon. Connect the lines to create a closed polygon. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

    • The measure mode will allow you to measure any distance on the map. It will show the measurements in feet, miles, or acres.

      • Pan: This tool will allow you to click and drag the map to move the map extent.

      • Line: This tool will allow you to measure a line on the map by clicking. Each new click will create a vertex, and you can double click to end the line.

      • Circle: This tool will allow you to measure the area of a perfect circle on the map. Click the “Circle” button, and then click once on the map to indicate the center of the circle. Then move your mouse outwards to widen the circle. Click again to finish the drawing. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

      • Rectangle: This tool will allow you to measure the area of a rectangle on the map. Click the “Rectangle” button, and then click once on the map to indicate the top left corner of the rectangle. Then move your mouse outwards to widen the rectangle. Click again to finish the drawing. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

      • Polygon: This tool will allow you to measure the area of a polygon on the map by clicking. Each new click will create a vertex, and you can connect the first point to the last point to finish the polygon. You may also change the line color, fill color, and thickness.

  • Any markups created will be accounted for in the right hand panel. If you would like to delete a markup, click . If you would like to edit the color or size of the markup, click “Edit”. By clicking on the small eye shape, you can toggle between hiding and showing the markup. You may choose to delete all markups by clicking “Clear All,” or hide all markups by clicking “Hide All”.
