Grays Harbor County is a place where isolated beaches meet the rugged landscapes of the Olympic Peninsula. As seen from the top of the Westport Viewing Tower, the two jetties that line the channel to Grays Harbor are not far apart as the crow flies, but it takes over an hour to drive from one side of the harbor to the other. The historic Grays Harbor Lighthouse provides visitors with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and serves as a symbol of the area’s maritime legacy. The county lies on the lands of the Quinault people, also known as the Canoe People, named for the Western Redcedar, the Tree of Life.
Recently, Grays Harbor County harnessed the power of MapGeo to share their parcel data online for residents and other stakeholders. Grays Harbor’s MapGeo site has over 40 themes available for users to explore. Themes showing Federal State Tribal lands, zoning for metropolitan areas, wetlands and other waterbodies, and even property sales for the past 4 years. Their site also includes a Terrain theme which highlights the mountains, valleys, and riverbeds that make up the county. Check out their MapGeo site to explore these themes and the area!

Watertown MA’s Construction Theme
Over the past year, the City of Watertown has been working with the AppGeo Division to provide the citizens of Watertown with an up-to-date overview of all the active construction work in the City. This publicly available MapGeo theme allows residents to get a visual representation of construction work in their area which also includes important information such as date of construction, type of construction, and extent of construction. In addition to informing the public on the active construction throughout the City, this effort has included building a comprehensive geospatial record of historic construction projects. This GIS data can be leveraged by City staff to identify areas of high construction, areas that have been underserved, and a searchable database of previous construction jobs, that previously would only be available in unconnected PDF documents. This data is empowering City staff to make informed decisions and better tell the story of the construction work being done in the City of Watertown, MA.

Software Integrations with MapGeo
The AppGeo Division has been working with the City of Holyoke and the City of Watertown to integrate permitting information into their MapGeo sites. The City of Holyoke is currently in the process of integrating their Municity permitting software with MapGeo, allowing staff to find all the associated documents quickly and easily simply by selecting the parcel in MapGeo. The City of Watertown has integrated Laserfiche, a document management system, with their MapGeo site in a similar fashion to Holyoke. These integrations allow MapGeo to be a one-stop-shop for all the staff to find associated property documents with a click of a button. By using MapGeo’s URL, staff can share links directly to the information they are viewing with others. This allows them to convey, share, and verify all property-related information through a central hub, MapGeo.
If your municipality has Lasherfiche or Municity, or any other systems that you would like to see integrated with your MapGeo site, please reach out to the MapGeo support team to discuss the integration process! Watertown’s MapGeo integration with Laserfiche as a link in their property panel
MapGeo Property Analysis
The Town of West Hartford has taken advantage of MapGeo’s built-in analytics to display information from spatial data directly within the property panel. This eliminates the need to turn on multiple map themes. MapGeo can analyze data behind the scenes to populate information from a layer, such as school districts, and match it to the selected parcel. In the screenshot below, you can see which school districts this parcel is located in, which sanding route it is along, which voting district it is located in, and what parks/recreation areas are near it.
