Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Mt. Desert Island, traveling to America’s easternmost National Park, Acadia. Many visitors to Acadia are surprised to know that perched high on exposed cliffs overlooking Blue Hill Bay, one of the park’s most iconic attractions, Bass Harbor Light Station, is actually located in the Town of Tremont – away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor. Locatedon this so called “Quietside” of the island,Tremont means "three mountains" in French, named for the peaks of Beech, Mansell, and Bernard mountains on either side of Long Pond.
Tremont has recently launched a new, easy-to-use hub for residents, staff, and others to quickly find answers to their questions by searchingand visualizing Tremont’s maps - such asparcels, zoning, land cover, flood zones,and coastal moorings- through the MapGeo platform.
